Compound word cards

9:30 - 10:00 - Morning Registration, Phonics quiz and English Input

10:00 - 10:30 - English Writing

Learning Objective: To be able to use verbs.

Today's part is Plop watching the campfire and then going back to the tree to tell his Mum about it.

Sentence 1 - Think back to your campfire yesterday. What sorts of things did you do? List the different activities you did: sang songs, played games, told stories, toasted marshmallows, drank hot chocolate, sipped hot chocolate....

We are now going to choose three of those activities and use a comma to put them in a list.

Here is my sentence: Plop watched while the boys sang happy songs, sipped hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows.

Sentence 2 - This is going to be a complex sentence that starts with a bit of information to describe Plop going back to the nest and then a comma before Plop telling his Mum all about it.

Gather some verbs to describe Plop going back to the nest - swooping, settling, perching, fluttering, gliding, landing....

Here is my sentence: Landing back on a sturdy branch, Plop told his Mum all about his adventure with the crackling campfire and the singing boys and the tasty snacks.

GIVEN SENTENCE: Plop was tired from his escapade and slept through the whole day like a real night bird.

Sentence 3 - Another complex sentence which is going to tell us about 'when' Plop woke up.

Gather some words to describe how Plop felt before and how he feels now. He was feeling worried, anxious, scared, nervous, frightened... Now he is feeling happy, excited, curious, intrigued, fascinated...

Here is my sentence: When he woke up, instead of feeling anxious he felt excited about the night.
