Monday

Good morning Year 6 - and HAPPY MONDAY! I hope you all had lots of fun at the weekend. We woke up to snow on Saturday morning, which was lots of fun....until it started raining and stayed grotty for the rest of the day. Oh well, let's hope the sun comes out for this week.

Today, Mrs Huotari will be doing an assembly by Zoom at 11:45 for KS2. This will be our Monday assembly, where we look at the Gospel readings and think about our faith. She will be emailing parents the link this morning - we'd love to see you whilst we join in from the classroom.

English

This morning in English, we will be developing a rich understanding of words associated with chaos and confusion - ready to use in our writing. We will introduce new vocabulary, identify word pairs and synonyms and apply the vocabulary in sentences.

Watch the video - and follow the instructions the teacher gives you. Pause the video to do the activities and then complete the independent work at the end of the lesson.

Maths

Write today's short date (18/01) in your home learning book and have a go at these arithmetic questions:

Watch the White Rose video - you can pause it as you are watching to have a go at joining in with the activities. When you get to the end, have a go at the work in your home learning book. You will need to have the worksheet open on a device in front of you and then do your working out and answering in the book. Once you have completed the task, you can use the answer sheet to mark your work before an adult emails me a picture of it. Good luck - and remember to email me if you have any questions.

Aut.6.12.1 - Divide fractions by integers (2)

Reading

Log on to LBQ and have a go at the comprehension exercise. The code today is:

Remember to use your full name (including surname) and your own chosen passcode to log in.

Afternoon lesson - Music

This afternoon Year 6, I would like you to use your log-in details for Charanga (I emailed them to your mums and dads) and have a look at the lesson I've set you.

When you log on, you will see I have set you an assignment called 'You've got a friend- step 1'. This is all about the music of a lady called Carole King, who was a prolific and talented songwriter. Click on the assignment, and you will see a screen which looks like this:

Click on the 'Listen and Appraise' tab which is at the top on the right, and work your way through the following listening activities.

I would like you to listen to the song, 'You've got a friend' using the 'listen' tab at the bottom (highlighted blue):

Think about the questions on the screen as you listen to the music.

Once you have finished listening once, have a listen a second time using the 'appraise' tab:

Look at the questions about the elements of music (tempo, dynamics, instruments, style) and use the 'show answer' button to learn more about the song.

I would also like you  to have a go at the activity called 'replacement - listen out'. You should see a screen which looks like this:

You need to listen to the different instruments, and then see if you can work out which ones are present in the song 'Count on me' by Bruno Mars.

It's trickier than it looks! Good luck Year 6!

I'd love to hear what you think of the song - please do email me and tell me whether you liked it or not, and explain why.
