Monday 1st March 2021
Happy Monday
I hope you've all had a wonderful weekend and are ready for the last week of home learning.
See you at 9:30am.
Mrs Bennett
9:00 - 9:30 - Phonics - Consonant Suffixes
Look at the PowerPoint and the consonant suffixes. When adding a consonant suffix there is no need to change the root word ending, unless the root word ends in a y. In this case, the y should be changed to an i before adding the consonant. Look at the +er +est Machine. See how the ‘y’ is changed to an i before adding.
Watch the flashcards video.
Write sentences containing as many of these new words as possible.
Change the meaning of the words the monsters are saying changing the suffix.
9:30 - 10:00 - Morning Registration and Input
(see zoom link in email)
10:00 - 10:30 - English - Writing
Learning Objective: To be able to use verbs and question marks.
Learning Chunk 1:
Look at the picture of the guards chasing the hat. Pretend you are a guard and chase something around your house. Whilst you are chasing it, think of other verbs to describe what you are doing.
Gather verbs: chased, sprinted, dashed, ran, scampered, charged, bounded, darted, flew...
Here is my sentence: The guards sprinted after the hat.
(You could deepen the moment by adding a bit more information to your sentence. You could add an adverb to describe how they are running: quickly, rapidly, as quick as a flash.... You could describe where they are running: the dashed along the footpath after the hat, along the pavement, through the streets....)
Learning Chunk 2
In this sentence we are going to use repetition to emphasis how much they are running.
Listen to a little bit of the video below of the sound of running feet. What sounds are the feet making on the pavement?
Gather sound words: stomp, thud, patter, pitter, tip, tap, click , clack...
Here is my sentence: Pitter patter, pitter patter went their boots.
(You could deepen the moment by adding detail to where they are running: on the hard pavement, on the concrete path...)
Learning Chunk 3
In this chunk we are going to use a question mark.
Look at the hat being blown away.
Now watch the first 30seconds of this video of a feather blowing in the wind.
Gather some words to describe how the feather is moving: wafting, drifting, twisting, twirling, spinning, whirling, whizzing, fluttering...
Here is my question: Where was the hat drifting to?
(You could deepen the moment by adding more question. Would the hat come back? Would the Queen see it again? ...)
10:45 - 11:15 - English - Reading
Learning Objective: To be able to retrieve information from a text.
Listen to the first part of the story.
Look through the PPT - we are looking at the retrieval viper today which means we are trying to find the answers in the text.
