Term 2

Our Topic: The Anglo-Saxons

How were the Saxons different to the Romans?

Who were the Anglo-Saxons? Where did they come from? Where did they go? This term the class will study this exciting period of history. They will understand what the terms invaders and settlers mean, why the Anglo-Saxons came to Britain and the impact this community had on the local environment. After that, the class will go onto study Anglo-Saxon buildings, designing and building their own version.

Our text this term is the amazing Beowulf written by Michael Morpurgo! It is a stroy set in fifth-century Denmark, a murderous monster stalks the night, and only the great prince of the Geats, Beowulf has the strength and courage to defeat him. Beowulf's terrifying quest to destroy Grendel, the foul fiend, a hideous sea-hag and a monstrous fire-dragon is the oldest surviving epic in British literature.
