Term 1
Trade: How much does a cup of tea cost?
This term, we look at UK's trade links with other countries, fair trade and the history of trading. Inspired by this learning and our Catholic Social teaching values (common good, protecting the poor and the dignity of work) we will be creating a 'tuck shop', stocking only fairtrade goods. The profits from this project will go to a local charity.
In RE, we are starting our term focusing on domestic church and the role of the family, moving into baptism/confirmation and the theme of belonging.
In English, we are writing our own stories for the 500 words competition. We will be reading Cloud Tea Monkeys and Mysterious Traveller by Mal Peet and Elspeth Graham then writing a story inspired by these tales. This will be a great way to see how much progress we make during our first term!
In maths, we are learning about place value, and the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
In science this term, the topic is properties and changes of materials. We will be learning how to measure temperature with a thermometer, use a data logger and even make some cornflour slime!
I am sure we will have a fantastic term full of rich, immersive learning!
