Term 1 - Do all Superheroes wear capes?
Our learning this term is all about superheroes - specifically those who help us in our world. From nurses, doctors, police officers, emergency responders, teachers, there is a superhero in all of them!
In History we will be learning about two amazing nurses that helped changed the way hospitals were used: Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. We will also look at the hardships they faced during their lifetime.
In RE, our topics this term are:
- Domestic church and the role of family - looking at new beginnings and the creation story.
- Baptism/confirmation and the theme of belonging - exploring signs and symbols of baptism.
In Maths, our learning this term focuses on Place Value and Addition and Subtraction. We will be focusing on recognising numbers up to 100 numerically and in words, partitioning numbers up to 100, addition and subtraction with 1 and 2-digit numbers and addition and subtraction within 10 and across 10.
In Science, we are learning about Animals including Humans - all about staying healthy and exercise. We will be learning about what our bodies need to help survive, how to practice good hygeine, eating healthy and exercise.
In DT/Art, we shall be designing our very own puppet superhero and painting comic style pop art in the style of Roy Litchenstein using Ben Day dots.
In English, we will start with some creative writing - writing a super character description of our own designed superhero using adjectives and our skills learned from Year 1! Then we will be writing a biography all about Florence Nightingale!
