Term 2
Welcome back to Term 2! I hope all the children had a fantastic break and are ready for another busy term of fun and learning. A reminder of the important days for Year 6 children - and the things they need to be remembering:
This term, our topic will be History and we will be trying to answer the question:
What was the impact of WW1 on our locality?
We are using a short film this term to inspire our learning:
We shall be learning all about the Christmas Truce of 1914 and imagining what it must have felt like for the soldiers in the trenches of the Western Front to be so far from home at such a special time of year.
We will also be visiting Folkestone Museum this term to learn more about how WW1 affected the coastal area we live in. This trip will give us a chance to see and handle to historic artefacts from the war and also learn about how propaganda was used to try and encourage young men to sign up and fight.

In our Maths learning, we shall be finishing our current learning about calculation strategies and moving on to start our new block about Fractions. In this block, we will recap on our previous learning about equivalent fractions and how to simplify them, and then move on to start calculating with fractions.
Our RE this term is all about Advent and Christmas, and what it means to wait with expectation. We shall be thinking about different people's expectations of the Messiah and how they differed - such as how Mary's expectation was different from John the Baptist's.
