Samphire Class
In Year 5, we learned all about Hinduism to revise our knowledge that we have learned in previous years. We were able to remember that Hinduism has more than one special prayer book. We discussed how, although it appears to be polytheistic, many consider Hinduism to be monotheistic as there is the belief in a supreme God, Brahman. Brahman is present everywhere and there is a part of Brahman in everyone. Brahman takes many forms. Especially three forms called the Trimurti. We discussed how Hindus believe that life is a cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. They also believe that the next life depends on how the previous life was lived.
We focused on how Hindus worship in the Mandir (Temple) and at home:
Hindus worship in a temple called a Mandir. Mandirs vary in size from small village shrines to large buildings, surrounded by walls.
People can also visit the Mandir at any time to pray and participate in the bhajans (religious songs).
Hindus also worship at home and often have a special room with a shrine to particular gods.
We showed off our knowledge in our class book, you can see it below! We also spent some time to draw mandalas and smell some beautiful incense which is a part of prayer and meditation for Hindus.
