Term 4

Welcome to Term 4! We are now over halfway through Year 1!

English

In English, our text is 'Rapunzel' by Bethan Woolvin. We started off by making predictions about what will happen in the story. We were all very surprised, as this fairy tale is a bit different from the 'Rapunzel' that many of us know... in this story, Rapunzel does not need a prince to rescue her!

We have been making inferences about how the character in the story are feeling. We will be going on to writing our own fairy tale later in the term.

Acting out the story of Rapunzel

Maths

This term, we will be developing our knowledge of place value to 50 and then going on to a unit about measure.

Estimating on the number line

Investigating: heavier or lighter?

Measuring mass in cubes

RE

This term, we will be continuing to learn about the Eucharist and we will then be going on to learning about Lent as a time of change.

We have been learning about the Our Father as the family prayer of the Parish. We read the Our Father together, thought about the words and then decorated our own copy to take home.

How we can show love during Lent

History

In History, we will be learning about a landmark local to us, Dover Castle. We will be identifying the different parts that were built at different times and putting the different buildings on a time line.

Road safety workshop

Year 1 were lucky to have David visit to teach us all about road safety. We learned about the five things we have to do before crossing a road:

1. Stop before the curb

2. Look both ways to see if anything is coming

3. Listen to check whether you can hear any traffic coming

4. Think whether it is safe to cross

5. Hold hands with our grown-ups
