Term 3

Term 3 – Egypt: What made the Ancient Egyptian civilisation so successful?

 

 

Our learning this term is all about Egypt - specifically a History focus exploring the impact of the River Nile, the development of civilisation, contextualising the era within chronology and compare Ancient Egyptian life to present day. We will continue to develop on the Year 3 learning of Early civilisations (stone, Bronze and Iron Age) using secondary sources gain a deeper understanding of early civilisations in the UK and around the world.

 

In RE, our topics this term are:

  • Local Church – community, answering the question “What makes community?” by exploring the roles within the parish community and what it means to serve.
  • Eucharist – Relating: giving and receiving, answering the question “What is more important giving or receiving?”. We will do this by gaining a deeper understanding of the symbols and actions within the Eucharist.

 

In Maths, our learning is Multiplication and division, measure (length and perimeter). We will be focusing on understanding the concept of perimeter, learning further about rectangles and rectilinear shapes whilst gaining a deeper understanding of the properties of regular shapes. In multiplication and division we will be exploring number patterns, learning to manipulate calculations confidently, partitioning and regroup whilst becoming more confident with our times tables and related number facts.

 

In Science, we are continuing to learn about the Human body, following the journey of digestion from the mouth (understanding about the formation and role of teeth), all the way through to food digestion.

 

In Art and Design we will explore the skill of monoprinting and repeat printing. In Design Technology, our focus is in pneumatics, identifying the function of pneumatics in everyday life and how to apply the skill to create a children’s toy.

 

In English, we will further develop our understanding of Ancient Egypt looking at a fiction text Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx (by Joe Todd Stanton). We will be developing part of a narrative, building tension, setting descriptions and direct speech.
