Daily Zoom session: Today is our second lesson learning 'ow' as in cow. This is a brown owl sound! Everyone will write the 'ow' sound in their exercise books at the same time as Miss Hunt whilst on zoom. Then we'll play 'Picnic on Pluto' together.

(now, cow, down, how, brown, crown, shower, flower)

Writing:

We will be reviewing the 'oo’ for book and ‘ow’ for cow sounds in our writing today.

Work out how to write these sentences with our new sounds in them.

  1. Look at the cow.
  2. Into the woods.
  3. I go to town.
  4. I took the book down.

Help for parents: Start with the first sentence and say it to your child. Get them to repeat it after you (my turn, your turn). Say it multiple times using funny voices; high pitched and squeaky, low pitched and deep, whispering quiet, VERY LOUD! This will help them to remember the sentence they're going to write.

Then get your child to write the sentence down one word at a time, working out what sound you can hear at the start, middle, and end of the word. Please support your child orally by saying the word slowly so they can hear each individual sound.

They can also use the Phase 2 and 3 sound mat (linked below) to find the letter that matches their spoken sound.

Once your child has completed the first sentence they can move on. If your child really struggled with the first sentence, then only continue to write the key 'oo' and 'ow' words in the other sentences.

I, the, no, go, to + into are tricky words. These cannot be sounded out. The children learn these as whole words, so if they're struggling to remember, please show them the Phase 2 Tricky word mat (linked below) in resources.

As always please take pictures of the sentences you've written and send them to Miss Hunt to see!

Please include any mistakes the children might have made (with their self-corrections below) and note down where they could hear/ write the sounds themselves and where they struggled.
