Monday

Good morning lovely Year 6s. I hope you all had lovely weekends - I can't believe today is the first day of February... Welcome to week 5 of home learning - please do email me and get in touch if you need anything, or I can help in any way.

Mrs Huotari will be doing our Monday faith assembly by Zoom at 11:45 for KS2. We'd love to see you whilst we join in from the classroom. The link is in the email you received last week - details for Year 6 zoom meetings.

Today's timetable looks like this:

These are suggested times (apart from the Zoom lessons), so fit your learning in when works best for you and your family.

English

Today we are starting a new unit in our writing lessons - looking at biographical writing about important scientists.

In this lesson, we will start off looking at parentheses: brackets, dashes and commas and their function within a sentence. Then we will explore the features of a biography: layout, punctuation, purpose, language, sentence structure, etc. Finally we will identify the features of a modelled text.

Watch the video - and follow the instructions the teacher gives you. Pause the video to do the activities and then complete the independent work at the end of the lesson.

Maths

For arithmetic today Year 6, I would like you to go to the website underneath and play a 1 player game of 'decimals jeopardy'.

You have questions to answer (multiple choice) which are worth different amounts of points.

Estimate your answers before you choose them.

Watch the White Rose video - you can pause it as you are watching to have a go at joining in with the activities. When you get to the end, have a go at the work in your home learning book. You will need to have the worksheet open on a device in front of you and then do your working out and answering in the book. Once you have completed the task, you can use the answer sheet to mark your work before an adult emails me a picture of it. Good luck - and remember to email me if you have any questions.

Spr6.2.1 - Multiply decimals by integers

Reading

Log on to LBQ and have a go at the comprehension exercise. The code today is:

Remember to use your full name (including surname) and your own chosen passcode to log in

Afternoon lesson - Music

This afternoon Year 6, I would like you to use your log-in details for Charanga and have a look at the lesson I've set you. When you log on, you will see I have set you an assignment called 'You've got a friend- step 2'. This is all about more of the music of Carole King. Click on the assignment, and you will see a screen which looks like this:

Click on the 'Listen and Appraise' tab which is at the top on the right, and work your way through the following listening activities.

I would like you to listen to the song, 'You've got a friend' again using the 'listen' tab at the bottom. Think about the questions on the screen as you listen to the music. Look at the questions about the elements of music (tempo, dynamics, instruments, style) and use the 'show answer' button to remind yourself about the song.

Once you have listened to, 'You've got a friend', have a listen to another one of Carole King's songs - The Loco-Motion:

Use the appraisal questions to learn more about the song - which was written in 1962.

Your final task is to have a go at the 'Listen out' activity. Today's instrument identification challenge is listening to a pop/soul song called 'Aint No Mountain High Enough' by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.

Listen to the different instruments, and then see if you can work out which ones are present in the song.
