Connaught Class

This year Year 2 have enjoyed learning and exploring different parts of Judaism! We first learnt all about what Judaism is and where they go to worship, as well as learning about the different Jewish artefacts.

Next we explored the Shema Prayer, and what it means. We have learnt that Shema means ‘to listen’. We wrote our own Shema prayer based on our beliefs and then wrote them on special paper!

Then we learnt about Rosh Hashanah, which is a special New Year festival for Jewish people. We tried apples dipped in honey, Challah bread and pomegranates – all of which Jewish people eat at Rosh Hashanah!

Lastly, we explored what Jewish people do at Hanukkah, also known as the ‘Festival of Light’. We learnt that they light each candle every evening for 8 days, to symbolise the story of the Miracle Oil. We also learnt about dreidel, a game children play during Hanukkah.

Learning about the different artefacts and symbols found in a synagogue.
