9:00 - 9:30 Handwriting Practise

 

Practise writing the lowercase and uppercase ‘h / H’

 

You need to try to write on the line whilst using lead-ins and lead-outs. You don’t need lead-ins and lead-outs for capital letters.

9:30 - 10:15 Phonics with Mr Elks

 

Today we will be exploring the 'ew' Cool Blue digraph.

 

I have emailed the Zoom link to parents.

 

During the Zoom meeting, I will be showing the ‘Phonics – ew - Cool Blue - powerpoint’ and the children will be reading ‘ew’ words from the real words flashcards. 

 

Afterwards, you may watch the ‘Monster Phonics Crew’ video below.

 

I would like the children to practise their blending skills by reading 'ew’ Cool Blue nonsense words using the flashcards (see below).

 

Then, I would like the children to practise their segmenting skills by spelling ‘ew’ Cool Blue real words

which their parent/carer says out loud (see flashcards below). 

 

Extra Challenge:

Write sentences including at least one of the 'ew’ Cool Blue words. Remember to use a capital letter at the beginning and a full stop at the end.

LO: To be able to subtract without crossing 10.

 

Subtract without crossing 10 means that when you subtract, your answer will be 10 or above.

e.g. with 18 – 5 = 13 you do not need to count below 10.

Then, choose an activity to complete.

This is a very important activity that helps the children to grow their reasoning (problem solving) skills.

LO: To be able to summarise information from a non-fiction text.

 

Today, the summarise Viper will be helping us to recall (remember) the text (See the viper below).

 

Non-fiction means factual and true.

With your parent, read the ‘British foods’ and ‘Welsh Foods’ texts.

 

Discuss answers to these questions:

  • What Welsh dish can you name?
  • What Northern Irish dish can you name?
  • What Scottish dish can you name?
  • What English dish can you name?

 

Main Activity:

Create a UK themed menu for your own restaurant.

Include dishes from each country of the UK.

Include prices and pictures.

 

Extra challenge Activity:

Also, include some starters, some mains, some side dishes, some cheeses and some cakes on your menu.

 

Extra Support Activity: 

Instead, draw and label dishes which you remember from the text.

13:00 – 14:15  DT (continue after Show and Tell Zoom meeting)

LO: To be able to plan, prepare and review a Welsh dish.

 

This week, we have been learning about Wales

Wales has many national dishes (food).

I would like you to make at least one Welsh dish.

 

You can complete this activity another day if you do not have the required ingredients.

If you are unable to follow any of the Welsh recipes (see below), please prepare Welsh themed biscuits or cakes

 

 

Look at the Welsh recipes below. 

Choose a recipe you would like to follow.

Discuss what ingredients you will need to prepare the dish.

Discuss the steps you will need to follow to prepare the dish.

 

Plan:

Draw a picture of your chosen Welsh dish.

Label your picture, showing its name and the ingredients you will need. 

 

Prepare

Next, use your plan and the recipe to help you prepare your chosen dish.

 

Review

Discuss your prepared dish.

Write answers to the below questions or verbally answer them (parents can write child’s answers):

  • How does it taste?
  • How does it look?
  • What went well?
  • What could you improve?
