National Poetry Day 'OFF BY HEART'' competition 2021

Next week on Thursday 7th October it is National Poetry Day. We are planning a week full of learning to celebrate poetry in all its forms and get the children enthusiastic about this special kind of writing. We will be having a poetry reading competition to promote the joy of sharing poetry and learning it off by heart. Children who would like to take part in the competition will be bringing home a selection of poems. They need to choose 1 poem to practise and learn, to perform next week. The best way of learning a poem is not to try and do it all at once. Little and often, line by line, is often the best approach.  Staff and parents are also encouraged to have a go as this will also give the children encouragement!

The children will be reciting their poems in class between Monday and Wednesday and the two winning entries from each class will go through to the Grand Final in the school hall on Thursday 7th October at 2:30pm. We are hoping to have special guests from our wider school community helping us as a judging panel with the difficult task of choosing the overall winners from each phase. Parents of the children taking part in the final will be notified - so that they can join us for the special performance assembly. There will be prizes for the winners.
