Good Morning!

By now, I hope you all have read the email about your teachers next year. I am so pleased you will be going into Year 6 with Miss Drage. She is a fantastic teacher and you will love being in her class! I used to be Miss Drage's TA and she is very kind and very clever. You know I will miss you all so much, but I will be right next door and am always available to talk if you'd like to. Teaching you all has been a pleasure and I will never, ever forget it.

Today, we are learning about decimals as fractions.

Year 5 - Week 7 - Lesson 1 - Decimals as fractions

This is "Year 5 - Week 7 - Lesson 1 - Decimals as fractions" by White Rose Maths on Vimeo, the home for high quality videos and the people who love them.

Today we are moving on to our next English booklet- Wonderful Wizards!! It is a bit of a fun creative challenge today. I would like you to create a set of Top Trumps for Wizards. Can you come up with a fantastic name for your wizards and give them a unique set of qualities and skills?

Be as creative as you like. There is a template in the document below, however you can do this task on paper and make them yourself.

Afternoon Lesson

Take a look at these pictures: what do you see?

On Monday 22nd June, we celebrate Windrush day. This is a special day to remember all the people from the Caribbean, who were invited to the UK to help rebuild the country after the War.

The Empire Windrush was the ship that carried more than 500 people from the Caribbean to the UK. People on board this ship were mainly from Jamaica, but there were also people from Poland, Trinidad and Tobago and Bermuda. Many of the people from the Caribbean that came were not treated with the respect they deserved and some British people did not want them to be here in the UK.

These people came to the UK to work for the NHS and many other jobs that we needed people to do. They helped our country survive after WW2.

Some people in the UK did not give them the respect and welcome that they deserved, they were very close minded and racist towards them. They did not want them to be a part of our country because of he colour of their skin.

Unfortunately, in 2017 the British government wrongly detained many of these people and tried to deport them back to their countries of origin. This is called The Windrush Scandal.

I'm sure you have heard in the news about 'Black Lives Matter'. This is why this week we are going to learn about the Windrush generation and celebrate them for their contributions to our country.
