Lent & Easter 2021
With Easter fast approaching, we have started to think about how we can help others within our community. Therefore, throughout the period of Lent & Easter, we will be working to fundraise for local charity ‘Dover smART Project’. ‘Dover smART Project’ is a registered charity that works hard to support vulnerable and disadvantaged people within our local community of Dover through community art projects. This includes providing much needed support for young carers as well as many others, and gives them the opportunity to take part in a wide range of creative activities and experiences to boost their confidence and enhance their wellbeing.
‘Dover smART Project’ are our named charity for this year. They are close to our school’s heart, having directly supported some of our community members. Therefore, we thought what better way to show our love and appreciation for them and everything they do for others.
To help fundraise for this worthy cause, the following exciting events will be taking place over the coming weeks.
The Sponsored Mile
There are a mighty 246 members that make up our St. Richard’s family! Our Easter challenge is to get ourselves out in the fresh Spring air and collectively travel a minimum of 246 miles to raise money for our charity, ‘Dover smART Project’. Choose how you travel, e.g. walk, run, hop, skip, cycle - be creative! Have as many people as you can sponsor you for every mile that you travel and this will go towards our whole school total and donation pot for ‘Dover smART Project’.
Everyone has have been given a sponsorship form to use. The sponsorship time period runs from Monday 15th March 2021 – Sunday 18th April 2021 so please use the Easter holiday break to clock up those miles! The children will be able to achieve their first mile in school before the end of term to get them started.
Please remember to take lots of photos of your children/families completing their challenge and send these to firstname.lastname@example.org so we can upload these to the school website for all to see.
Easter Bonnets & Gardens
The traditional Easter Bonnet & Garden competitions are back! With our charity’s mission in mind, be as creative as you can to produce an Easter Bonnet if you are in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 or an Easter Garden if you are in Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 or Year 6.
Make sure they are in school by Monday 29th March 2021 so our winners can be identified and awarded before the end of term.
Guess The Artist
You might not know that many members of our St. Richard’s staff team are extremely talented artists! Look carefully at the pieces of art that have been shared on our website and guess who the artist is - it could be any member of staff from St. Richard’s! Submit your guess to your class teacher for only 20p. If you guess correctly, you will be entered in to a draw for a chance to win an Easter egg and the masterpiece itself!
Photos of the pieces of art will be available on the website from Monday 22nd March 2021 under the ‘Lent & Easter 2021’ tab.
Lenten Prayer Service
Fr. Jeff will be celebrating Easter with us through a Lenten Prayer Service that is taking place on Wednesday 31st March 2021 at 2pm. All children will ‘attend’ virtually during the school day. All parents and carers are welcome to watch the live service on https://www.churchservices.tv/dover
Come to school on Friday 26th March 2021 in an outfit that simply makes you feel happy and positive :). To help our charity, we ask for a small donation for the day.
PTFA Easter Raffle
In addition to these, our PTFA team will also be hosting their annual Easter Egg Raffle. Please keep an eye out on the app for more information about this.
